You mean I turned 80 today?

No, Grandma didn't actually say that but something like that may have crossed her mind at one point or another that day. Grandma was just having fun playing to the camera by making faces.

Contrary to the evil look, Grandma has always tried her best to be a good person and to help others. She has, for as long as I have known her, been active in the Church, although her health prevents her from participating as much these days. When Grandma was younger she taught Sunday school. I was one of her students when I was a child. Even though I did not follow through with the Christian faith into adulthood, Grandma is still there to listen when I needed to talk and to help when she can.

Grandma with a smile

Because Grandma hates to have her picture taken getting a picture with her smiling is somewhat of an achievement. I took 18 pictures of Grandma on her birthday and she is only smiling in 3 of them… and she was distracted by the television for one of those three shots. I guess taking group pictures (shown on page 9 and 10) where the group could see the TV showing the World Series wasn't such a great idea.

Grandma has an interesting family history, although there are more skeletons hidden in her family tree closet than she wanted anyone to know about. She never told us, her children, grandchildren, and so on, about her family history, I had to find it on my own.

When I began researching our family history, almost immediately, I started to find those family closet secrets that Grandma never told us about. Since then, Grandma has been talking with me about it. I will not go into details here and now but her side of the family story will be told one day.

By the way, Grandma's genealogy stretches back to the original 13 English colonies here in America. I also found that her late husband, my late grandfather, also traces back to colonial American times, but not quite as far back as Grandma's family does.

*****

These two pictures of Grandma were taken near the middle of the party, just after dinner on October 23, 2005. On the next pages I display the birthday pictures more or less in the order they were taken.
